Here is the first poem by “Jewish working class poet” “Uncle Bubba” Bruce Axelrod, “Us Men,” part of a collection dedicated to Mark Heffernan, titled “Poems Called Forth.” If we have a winter too cold to work on roofs, I’ll type more of these gifts from Bruce.

US MEN

Us Men
Us Men

Us everyday men
Not the Mick Jagger Ricky Martin Trumped
Tower kind george bush savings and loan pimp scandal
Hollyweird rich rich filthy rich men.

Us paycheck to paycheck if we even got that men
Struggling inner apopcalypse men,
Us spare change cracked toth men
Ragged round the edges men.

Us trying to live well
Us trying to love well men.

Us trying to live well when our fathers weren’t present men us
Feeling like we are dying men.

Us 60 hour week bruised hand men
Us expendable industrial moloch slave men
Us taught to be hard hard so fucking hard taught to
Not feel a thing men
Not feel a thing but in violence and sex men
US CANNON FODDER FOR THE RICH MAN’S WAR MEN
Us never got a chance to cry men
Only the chance to die men.

O us ancestral river men
Where the soft handed hard hearted ones
Never worked a day in their lives ones
Pimp violence build the prisons for our
Young men.

Us thug on the corner discarded men
Us feel like a stranger men
Us less than gucci culture men
Us not speak the kings english men
Us doing all the work men
Us feel like we invisible men
Usup against the suicide machine men
Us deep fading beauty men.

Us change the tire load the truck
Plow the field lend a hand men.

US FEEL DEEP THE HARVEST MEN.

Us don’t get a chance to cry men
Us lost lost dream men
Us men that was boyz that never got to be boyz men
Us men with guns in hand at birth men
Us why is that men
Us is a baby born violent men
Us prisoins being built for us childrenmen
Us non disneyland non national anthem non hilton
Hotel loving men.

Us poet whitmanic shamanic voice men.

Us don’t judge us men
Uswe ain’t monsters men
Uswe was once tender hearted boys men
Us we are your gandmothers’ children men
Us we need to be touched men
Us we are hurting inside men
Us we need to be loved men
Us we are God’s children men.

US WE HAVE REALLY BEEN UP AGAINST
THE OPPRESSION OF THE AGES AND THE HURT
INSIDE US THAT CREATES OUR MONSTER SCENES
AIN’T OUR FAULT MEN.

Us we really want to love men.

Us waiting for a miracle men
Us we are the miracle lmen
Us grandmothers’ hands touched us gentle men
Us grandfathers’ hands touched us that way too
Us rise up despite Moloch men
Us greet the angry industrial day men
Us steely eyes intent men
Us returning to tenderness men
Us returning to forev er men
Us prayer men
Us prayer men
Us rise up in prayer men
Us deep down we care men
Us good men
Us good good men.
