Update: Restoration of the Washington Park Bandshell

An exciting year lies ahead for NUWP, Neighborhoods United for Washington Park, and our beautiful historic park! Efforts in bringing restoration dollars to the Washington Park Bandshell have been successful. With the help of County Supervisors Lee Holloway and Lynn De Bruin, the county budget has allocated $50,000 to the Bandshell. A neighborhood corporate sponsor has matched that amount. We are on our way!

Using this money in an economical way to produce the best results will require a partnership on many levels. Volunteer efforts will help defray the cost of several projects that are on the development agenda. Painting, cleaning and landscaping are but a few of those issues that can be addressed with volunteer labor. We need your help. Please consider joining us to make these dollars go further. We can make a difference and “bring back” this park. For many of you it holds wonderful memories; visiting the zoo, family picnics, ice skating on the lily pond or attending the popular “Music Under the Stars” program. Let us give others that opportunity to remember the fun of attending an outdoor concert and using this park in the way it was intended.

In addition to the continuing July, Saturday Night Jazz Concerts sponsored by station WJZI, our NUWP members will be putting together 2 additional musical venues that feature local talent on August 6th and the 13th. We will then end our summer programs with a Dog Show that will be staged at the Bandshell and feature our local talent competing for awards and recognition. (Bring your scoopers!)

Please join us. Let this be the first step to many more in bringing Washington Park back to life.
