Peace Poem by KT Rusch
“True peace is not the absence of tension, but the presence of justice.” — MLK
keep walkin’ though there’s no place to go
keep walkin’ though there’s no place to go
keep walkin’ though yr heart is breaking
yr feet are aching
keep walkin’ though there’s no place to go
keep walkin’ though the pain is immense
keep walkin’ though the pain is immense
yr friend is dead
it makes no sense
keep walkin’ though the pain is immense
keep walkin’ through the thunder and the rain
keep walkin’ through the thunder and the rain
dark storm rising
war on the plain
bombs are falling
children calling
and third world potential
don’t carry no credential
because the powers that exploit
take trees and oil
diamonds and gold
→women get raped and
beautiful little girls get sold
so many starving
the small are calling
powers that be
don’t care for you and me
Nature is destroyed
racial and religious conflict are employed
by war fueled by the powers with no vision to see
beyond
and these small minds take us down
a road of misery and pain,
keep walkin’ through the thunder and the rain
keep on walkin’ when yr heart is breaking
when yr heart is breaking
when yr heart is breaking-→→
wear it on yr sleeve
it’s out there for the taking
open to the world, can feel like a curse
but open to everything, that heart contains the universe
keep walkin’ when yr heart is breaking
keep on and give it all up
drop yr shoes right now
the clothes on yr back, the chains on yr neck
the grill in yr mouth, the hat on yr head
all of yr dreads
keep walkin’ and give it all up
yr relationships, the good and the sad
yr jealousies, yr joys
yr deepest pain
yr darkest anger
yr father
yr mother, sister, brother
give it all up
yr children
nothing is fair here, there is no justice
(she wakes up frightened and alone, that mother who outlives her child)
give it up
yr dearest friend
yr soul sister
yr soul brother
keep walkin’ and give it all up
because we go back naked
we take back nothing
there’s a great river to cross
upon barefeet
we go back naked
we take back nothing,
but for the service of our soul, and the love we put out
so keep walkin’ and give it all up
keep walkin’ and hold onto this prayer→
keep walkin’ and hold onto this prayer
a prayer for peace
within and everywhere
keep walkin’ and hold onto this prayer.
a prayer to be fearless
a prayer to be calm
a prayer to let go
a prayer to be strong
for grace to descend
and wisdom to rise
for the vision to truly see
to open our eyes
for compassion for all beings
dignity and respect
to hold on to our faith
though this world feels so wrecked
keep walkin’ and hold onto this prayer
a prayer for peace
within and everywhere.
