Dear Milwaukee Readers,
Dawn’s Yummy Delights is a company that started in Milwaukee, WI in 1993.doing catering and baking. My emphasis was on the catering at that time, but I soon became aware that my passion was the baking and decided to put my efforts in that part of cooking. Thus DYD was formed. Trying different things within my business I came up with the idea of a ‘Sweet Treat’, which is an individual sized dessert gift wrapped and delivered for any occasion, this was the second phase of my business.
My Great-great grandmother was a cook in Louisiana, back in the early 1900′s but her greatest work was her cakes, although she did it all. My Grandmother, who was called Gammy by all who knew her, was the epitome of bakers, I loved to watch as well as eat her wares.
Moving to Arizona in 2002, I attended the Art Institute of Phoenix, culinary school and graduated with honors in Bakery & Pastry. Then deciding to follow my dream and focus on preparing desserts as the focal point of my cooking. Using the recipes that Gammy had shared with me I started tweaking them and making them my own. One of her/our favorites was the nuts she prepared. When I started serving them to my customers they fell instantly in love with them. Once you try them it’s hard to stop eating.
Trying for a specialty in my business I decided to start with the focus on ‘Gammy’ Kandied Nuts’, named of course after my Gammy.
Mr. Godsil this is a short synopsis of how my business and the Kandied Nuts came about. If there is anything else I can share with you do not hesitate to let me know.
