MILWAUKEE IMPEACHMENT GROUP MEETING
THIS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4th 7:00 PM
Friends Meeting House, 3224 N. Gordon Place, Milwaukee
(Start on Humboldt Avenue between Locust and Capitol,
find Auer Avenue, go east 2 blocks to the dead end … there you are!)
Aren’t we all sick of feeling powerless in front of the TV while our representatives and media act like all is well with this country?
Well, come and get your POWER on! We Milwaukee Impeachers have made a REAL difference in changing the political landscape and our Steering Committee has put together an ACTION PACKED meeting this Monday. We heard your ideas from the last meeting and are now ready to shake off the winter (and Bush/Cheney) blues!
It has been exciting and very satisfying to meet you wonderful neighbors who have been so passionate about reclaiming decency and the rule of law to our land. And we must continue, as the abuses keep coming, such as H.R.1955 – the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, truly making thought crimes punishable (see http://yedies.blogspot.com/2008/01/hr-1955-thought-crimes-bill.html )
We need the unique energies YOU can bring. There is nothing more rewarding than being a FORCE for GOOD – especially when it’s good for the country WE all live in!
TO GET A HEAD START ON THE MEETING, PLEASE GIVE SOME THOUGHT TO HELPING WITH THE FOLLOWING TASKS:

AND HERE IS A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY, IF YOU ARE SO INCLINED:

very important to we who elected him. Let him know at
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
FINALLY, here are some letters to the editor. Kristin’s (below) was just sent today. The two below that were in last Saturday’s paper (including one from a naysayer).
Regarding TAMMY BALDWIN’S ARTICLE: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=708866
I was very moved by Tammy Baldwin’s courageous editorial of January 19th explaining why it is her duty to uphold the Constitution by calling for articles of impeachment. She truly understands that this is not a partisan issue — in fact, the situation is so dire that Republican Bruce Fein who served in President Reagan’s Justice Department is pleading for it too.
Among the charges to be investigated (and impeachment is simply investigation, not conviction) are instituting torture and rendition, unlawful no-bid contracts to political friends, illegal spying on citizens, suspending habeas corpus, politically motivated prosecutions, manipulating intelligence, openly threatening aggression against Iran, and ignoring subpoenas and obstructing justice.
Do we accept these practices from our elected leaders? Do we wish these “powers” to continue with the next administration? Dennis Kucinich said to Congress, “If impeachment is off the table, truth is off the table. If truth is off the table then this body is living a lie.” Nixon’s impeachment only took 3 months. It is the right thing to do and that is all that matters. Urge those on the Judiciary Committee to do their duty, as our own Tammy Baldwin and Gwen Moore have done.
IN LAST SATURDAY’S MILWAUKEE JOURNAL/SENTINEL:
Executive powers need to be checked now
In her Journal Sentinel op-ed, “Impeachment resolution a matter of accountability,” U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) gave a long laundry list of reasons for impeachment of the Bush administration (Crossroads, Jan. 20). She also pointed out that “if we fail to take action to either impeach or repair the damage, the next president will inherit unchecked powers.”
Baldwin gets it. The cumulative effect of ever-increasing executive power should be a major concern for citizens of all political persuasions. Had President Reagan been impeached for the Iran-Contra fiasco more than 20 years ago, the current administration probably would not have dared to attack Iraq. The Founding Fathers made references to impeachment several times in the Constitution to protect us from an overreaching executive, especially in war.
Although impeachment should not be sought for political reasons, it should be pursued vigorously in light of evidence that shows that an administration has caused great harm to the country.
Unfortunately, most members of Congress still don’t get it. It will take nothing short of outrage directed at our representatives to get them to act on our behalf to preserve our and future generations’ constitutional rights.
