Dear All,

I would very much like to brainstorm with you
About a vision I have been growing
These past few years.

I can see self-creating a Milwaukee Mime Troupe
That partners with Lula’s and Timbuktu,
And other fine individuals and enterprises,
To create…

Lula’s African Village at Summerfest 2006
Serving Growing Power Rainbow Farmers Organic Locally Produced Food
Club Timbuktu and Lula’s African Village in Oakland California, 2007

I can also see a Milwaukee Mime Troupe
Creating materials for on-line distant learning
And workshops to convey important bodies of
Knowledge and wisdom.

And “just-in-time Mime Troupe “jams,”
Ready to turn on a dime
And awaken people to
Some of the joy of
Drums, Horns, Song, Dance, and…

What say?

Olde Godsile

Just a suggestion.
I’d avoid using the word mime.
Most people have a distinct (as well as misinformed) idea of what mime is. When Barbara and I did our first show we needed a company name so we came up with Friends-Mime-Music (we needed a name to book the show on the road). That soon changed to Friends Mime Theatre, which was always misunderstood because we didn’t do Marcel Marceau style silent pantomime. It took us almost 20 years to change it to The Milwaukee Public Theatre. We also started The Milwaukee Mime & Improvisation Troupe through the University Of Wisconsin Extension Arts program in the 70′s. The word “mime” was always a confusing element to the unfamiliar. I’d suggest you take a look at our old friends at:
http://www.sfmt.org/company/index.shtml

Also I’d stay away from the term “Performance Art” also, because there is equal confusing about that form.

There is a troupe of young mostly African American performers already working who seem like a good fit with your Lula’s African Village project. The AJULA PERFORMANCE TROUPE. Barbara Leigh can put you in touch with their manager, Kathleen Stacy.
Barbara is at 347–1685 or barbara@milwaukeepublictheatre.org

Dear All,

Would there be any problems
Using the name
“Milwaukee Mime Troupe,”

For a group that would help create
Performance Art Events
At places like Summerfest,
The Bay View Bash,
And so forth.

Lula’s African Village at Summerfest,
Conceived by Tanya Cromartie Twaddle,
Might wish to partner with a group like
the Milwaukee Mime Troupe,
Were it to crystallize.
