Dear All,

My response to the Ellen St. Outrage is to help foster a “Rainbow NAACP” that makes a substantial contribution to a social and economic renaissance in Milwaukee.

The NAACP has offered its support and offices to a “Grand Alliance” of Milwaukee citizens who wish to help advance the cause of “minimal force, non-racial, and beloved” police force in Milwaukee.

The NAACP is also helping Save the Soldiers Home and bring a “Rebirth of Freedom” Celebration this Summer.

The NAACP is helping spark a collaboration with Summerfest and World Festivals Inc. such that neighborhood food and arts vendors and peforming artists have easier access to a “Milwaukee Neighborhood Offerings” section of Summerfest.

Finally, the NAACP is helping enhance citizen internet resources, directed toward the formation of a Metro Milwaukee Federation of Neighborhoods.

Membership, which includes a subscription to the legendary magazine “The Call,” is $30 per year.

If you would like to pay $12,50 per quarter or $2.50 per month toward you membership, we can work that out.

There will be a meeting at the NAACP offices this Wednesday, from 3 to 5 p.m., at 2745 N. MLK.

What say?

Why not?

Dear All,

There is a movement in Milwaukee to pull together a Federation of Neighborhoods, starting on-line with occasional “all-city gatherings” at sacred locations like Milwaukee’s Soldiers Home or Timbuktu.

We have had great success around issues of historic preservation by virtue of the power of our “emerging neighborhood minds on line.”

We blocked a hideous Big Box Walgreens from desecrating an historic boulevard in a neighborhood struggling to authentically integrate, i.e. Sherman Park.

We allied with the ecology movement in Milwaukee and turned out about 1,000 people at a hearing to protest a navy veterans group violating our lakefront with a monstrous warship.

We have organized a “Grand Alliance” with the NAACP, the GLBT leadership, and other “identity groups” to face up to a subculture of violence infecting a portion of our police department, manifest in a brutal beating in my neighborhood of Bay View(where Father Groppi, leader of open housing marches 1967 was raised).

While we are organizing a Milwaukee Federation of Neighborhoods I am hoping to discover that the good citizens of Chicago, Madison, Minneapolis, Detroit, etc. are working along parallel lines.

Then, when each city has its own Federation of Neighborhoods, we can imagine a Great Midwest Federation of Neighborhoods.

Neighborhoods with on-line connections, linked with all city neighborhood information webs, then connected to cities in a major region of the USA, could fill the void in the civil society created with the diminution of unions, progressive political parties, and neighborhood based communities of faith.

Why not?
