Metro Milwaukee Young Playwrights Competition 2006
I’m very excited to be working with the esteemed Michael Wright of the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre this year for the Young Playwrights Competition. It will be bigger and better than our “genesis year.” Start writing, and submit your scripts. Complete submission guidelines and more information is available here.
Junior State of America Winter Congress 2006
The Junior State hosts this annual event where politically active young people from around this country gather to discuss and debate current issues. The format of the convention is a mock congressional session, where student-written legislation is introduced, and then debated and voted upon. Additionally, keynote speakers from the ranks of professional politics address the delegates, adding to their exposure of current events. The convention is held in Washington, DC.

Smoldering Fires at First Stage Children’s Theater
This is a groundbreaking piece of theatre, written by renowned playwright Kermit Frazier. It deals with issues of today’s society that are rarely discussed, but NEED to be discussed. The play centers around Corey, a young African-american boy who lives in the inner city of an unnamed American metro area. His area of town is plagued by violence, segregation, and drug trafficking — and this is something that he wants to take action about. As the play progresses, Corey and his friend Dashawn are reminded of the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and through a series of events, effect change in their community.
In my opinion, this is a production that everyone should experience. These issues are important — and need to be brought to light. The show runs through the end of February. For ticket information, visit http://www.firststage.org/tickets or call 414.273.7206.
