Action Alert: Stop the changes to the Special Needs Scholarship Program

The budget heads to Governor Walker’s desk early this week for his signature includes sweeping changes to the Special Needs Scholarship program that creates an open door and provides a blank check for private schools without any check and balances.

These changes increase funding coming out of public schools for special education and the overall general fund with almost no limitations and no protections under IDEA.

The provision was added at the last hour of the budget negotiations without any public hearing or input from parents, schools, or disability organization.

Call the Governor’s office at (608) 266 – 1212 and ask him to veto the changes to the Special Needs Scholarship program on eligibility and funding.
