Anti-Muslim Tensions Rise During American Presidential Election

Anti-Muslim rhetoric continues to spark negative actions against American Muslims during the presidential campaign in America.

As Republican front runner Donald Trump continues his vile language of hate against Muslims, United States Senator, Ted Cruz, also a leading candidate for the Republican nomination for president of the United States, has joined in with Trump by trying to out do the hate speech Trump espouses by injecting fear of Islam into the hearts of an ignorant American public.

The combination of fear and hate speech of Muslims by Trump and Cruz has clearly spiked anti-Muslim actions in America. These actions are being done by individuals who believe Trump and Cruz by taking to heart the foul rhetoric the duo promote.

For example, a United Airlines pilot asked a Muslim family of five to leave a plane before it took off, citing “safety” issues.

The family of five included three innocent children. The flight was bound for Washington DC from a Chicago airport when the pilot asked them to get off the aircraft.

When the family inquired as to why they were being asked to get off of the plane, they were told by the pilot of the plane that is was a matter of “safety,” but were not given any details as to what the safety concern was.

The family asked the pilot for details explaining why they were being removed from the aircraft; the pilot ignored their questions.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) sent a letter to United Airlines demanding an explanation and disciplinary actions against the plane’s pilot and staff.

The CAIR letter stated, “We are tired of Muslim-looking passengers being removed from flights for the flimsiest reasons, under a cryptic claim of ‘security,’”said CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab. “Security means securing passengers, not harassing and humiliating them and booting them off their flight for, of all things, actually asking for security.”

The Muslim family affected wrote on Facebook a message to United Airlines. The message stated, “Shame on you ‪United Airlines‬ for profiling my family and me for no reason other than how we look and kicking us off the plane for ‘safety flight issues’ on our flight to DC for the kids’ spring vacation.

In a statement, United Airlines said the family was rebooked “on a later flight because of concerns about their child’s safety seat, which did not comply with federal safety regulations” and that the airline has “zero tolerance for discrimination.”

The airline apologized multiple times to the family after they got off the plane. The family was booked on another flight to continue their trip.

The negative attention being brought upon Muslims in America by the Republican candidates for president is a major contributing factor to the discriminatory attacks against Muslims by a fearful American public motivated to hate by the speeches of two men seeking the world’s most powerful position, president of the United States.
