Chairwoman Dimitrijevic Announces Seniors and Persons with Disabilities to Ride the Bus Free

Make It Work Milwaukee/ Mental Health Task Force Update

Thanks to Chairwoman Dimitrijevic and Milwaukee County Board Finance Committee members for passing an amendment that will allow seniors and persons with disabilities to ride Milwaukee County Transit System buses for free starting April 1.

We will be sending out information to you shortly about Monday’s public hearing on the budget and hope some of you will attend and speak in support of this amendment and the new “GO” passes. It is also helpful if you call or email you supervisor to indicate your support.

In addition, we encourage you to ask Supervisors to eliminate the proposed $4 per ride paratransit fare increase for individuals enrolled in IRIS or in Managed Care Organizations (MCOs). If the fare increase is approved, individuals receiving rides funded by Family Care, Partnership, or IRIS will have to pay a one way fare of $20.05 and a round trip fare of $40.10. This increase will not only impact these individuals ability to access transportation but will make it difficult to fund other vital services in their long term care budgets. This is a major increase and is not affordable as all IRIS or Family Care participants have very limited financial resources.
