Mental Illess Stigma Coalition 2017 Programs

One year ago our coalition presented to 150 people Keris Myrick, SAMHSA Director of Consumer Affairs as keynote speaker at our first summit “From Surviving to Thriving”. Our programs on mental wellness continued in 2016, and planning has begun to present the following programs in 2017:

A.S.K. - (Ask, Support, Knowledge - Brenda Wesley, NAMI Greater Milwaukee)
A.C.E. (Adverse Childhood Experiences)
PREVENT SUICIDE

Programs that focus on the subjects listed below will also be planned and/or incorporated in the above programs. The ideas were suggested by library staff.

Mental Wellness and Coping for Teens
Mental Wellness and Coping for Adults
What Does Mental Illness look like?
Where do you turn for help besides the police?
Veterans and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

2016 MISRRC Achievements:

I. Eight mental health programs will have been presented at libraries by the end of 2016 - 6 ASK and 3 ACE presentations. The programs have been well-received. Approximately 50 people to date have attended ASK and 20 have attended each ACE program. (Please see the attached flyers below for information on the next ACE and ASK programs.)

II. MISRRC supported the following programs in 2016:

A. Mental Health and Faith Workshop at MATC on September 29th - 100 in attendance

B. Milwaukee School, Home, and Community Collaboration (with Mental Health America of Wisconsin, an 8 year statewide program to improve mental health of youth. Milwaukee Chapter Links, a MISRRC Community Partner, is a contractual partner with this initiative in Milwaukee County.)

3. MISRRC listed as supporting organization in Letter to Milwaukee County Supervisors in support of Milwaukee County Transit providing access to disabled customers in 2017

4. Support of Milwaukee County Mental Health Task Force
