NEVER FORGET: Remembrance & Awareness Rally

This is just a reminder we plan to support Brandon Johnson’s family on Tuesday, October 6th, for a walk/rally in remembrance of him. Brandon Johnson died at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex on October 6, 2012, after staff refused to take his paralysis claims seriously. No one was ever charged for his case, we support this family as they seek to spread awareness and demand justice for their loved one.

Calling all Community Members, activists, friends, and family to stand with Brandon Johnson’s family against injustice.

As the Hamilton family faced the challenges of mental health in their case for Dontre’s life, the Johnson family does the same as they fight for justice. And still - no accountability for Brandon’s death, three years later.

On October 3, 2012, Brandon was taken away to the Mental Health Complex in Milwaukee by police and never returned home. Three days into his stay, Brandon died from neglect while in a state of paralysis. However, Brandon walked into the facility, not paralyzed. Brandon repeatedly asked for help, stating that he was paralyzed and needed to be taken to the hospital across the street. He was told the paralysis was all in his head. When the medical examiner released his report: it stated that Brandon had a broken neck and back. He suffered from deep vein thrombosis, a clot in one of his legs, broke loose and traveled to his lungs. He ultimately died from a pulmonary embolism

The stigma against mental health in this country is alive and well. Come out and stand with the Johnson and Hamilton family as we call attention to Brandon’s unjust death and remember the loving young man that he was.
