Giving Attention To Dr. Margaret Turnbull’s Gubernatorial Run and Possibilities For Wisconsin’s Future

I cannot help but do my best to inspire some of my political activist friends to begin a conversation about the impact “Maggie” Turnbull could have on Wisconsin’s future. She is one of the top astronomers in the USA, but also has been an ecologically sensitive activist and an Antigo alderman who developed a farmers market and a project that tapped municipal maple trees. “Maggie’s Wisconsin Base” could make a difference in our policy agenda, state politics, and presidential campaigns. She could be pivotal in emergence of urban/rural, local/global, and small business/union coalition, as well as life long citizens training in the STEAM disciplines. And she was born in West Allis, Milwaukee!

This short note on her suggests, in my mind, her possible role as history making leader in Wisconsin, as a governor or other worthy roles drawing upon her considerable intellectual resources and expansive visions.

“But the laws we have in place to protect our natural resources have to be taken seriously. We need healthy ecological systems in order to survive and enjoy our lives here, long after any one company arrives or leaves.”

“We are the meeting ground for the environment, education and science vote as well as the rural/small municipality, fishing, property rights, reasonable gun rights and fiscally responsible vote.”

While she made her home base in Antigo, she helped develop the farm market and spearheaded a project tapping municipal maple trees. She also served as Ninth Ward alderman from 2009 to 2013. She now manages a large nationwide team of scientists to design and build spacecraft as part of NASA’s mission to search for planets and life beyond our Solar System.

Would you be up for a conference call, google hangout, or event attendance?

I think Maggie Turnball is worthy of a conference call with you and yours regarding

  • her competence to advance some kind of 21st century Wisconsin Idea.

  • policies you wish her to advance in her current, and

perhaps future, campaigns.

This essay captures her essence:

This wikipedia entry speaks to her profound capabilities. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Turnbull

She is one of the few aspiring political leaders to have the insight necessary to imagine Wisconsin as a world leader in urban agriculture, aquaponics, edible schools for STEAM pedagogy and community social and economic development, and…looking in on cooperatives like the Mondragon and Evergreen trailblazers in Spain and Baltimore respectively.

She is one of the few aspiring political leaders I can imagine getting her hands in the soil, mix mental and manual labor, science and visionary politics.

For Dem Activists

I hope you can imagine some value added via a conversation with whom I think might be a new star in Wisconsin. I myself hope to help share her possibilities, if not as a governor so soon in her political life, but as an engaged scientist/permaculturalist/solutionary.

What say?

Why not!

Synchronicity

I had been carefully reading, and weaving into my Sweet Water story, + Brian Swimme’s “The Universe Is A Green Dragon: A Cosmic Creation Story” when Dr. Maggie invited me to be her facebook friend.

National Science Foundation “Partners for 5 by 40?

My vision involves Dr. Turnbull being the first political rep to a gubernatorial position capable of understanding and expertly advancing a vision of 5% of the nation’s schools and cities over 25,000 equipped with School Aquaponics Demos
and Urban Ecology Centers by 2040. I am hoping to inspire Maggie and her “partners” to build the political will to energize and accelerate this important quest.

I am going to reach out to Dr. Turnbull’s and my 140 mutual facebook friends and leaders of the link between hands on STEAM life long learning training to advance this concept.
