“Creation” by Sarah Hall

Sarah Hall’s Milwaukee Presentation 2006

Sun+Glass=Electric.

On August 29, Sarah Hall presented photos of her art to a group of people at the Urban Ecology Center. We discussed her art, her projects and ideas for an installation in Milwaukee. Sarah has blended glass art with photovoltaic cells, which generate electricity directly from the sun. To the right is a photo of her “Creation” piece. Her presentation was inspiring and energizing. Sara supports the concept of sparking the emergence of a self-conscious Great Lakes culture, based on great lakes and water basins, not political boundaries.

One of the guests was Melissa Janda, a young artist who works in stained glass; Melissa is also employed at Conrad Schmitt Studios. The hostess for the evening was Janine Arseneau, a contributor to MilwaukeeRenaissance.com, and personal support system for many efforts and persons. Ken Leinbach, director of the Urban Ecology Center, and Sarah discussed the Center’s space, and there was a sense among us that the Center would be ideal for one of Sarah’s installations. Or the Soldiers Home. Or one of our three rivers. Or the lake front. Or…

Suzanne Rosenblatt, artist, poet, great but modest being, was at the earlier moments of the evening.

I would be thrilled to find one of my grandchildren creating photovoltaic art glass for my worker house at 325 E. Euclid. Or my neighbor’s grandchild! — Godsil
