20 Citizen Work/Teach/Live Places at the Soldiers Home
Dear All,
Does anyone have a realtor to recommend who would like to imagine putting together a proposal to combine 20 citizens interested in purchasing or leasing a work/teach/live place at the Soldiers Home.
I would imagine that the Soldiers Home Foundation and the City of Milwaukee would give preference to citizens who had skills they would share with veterans whose lives would be greatly helped by training that would lead to multiple skills sets, the higher the labor value embodied the better.
I also think these organizations might even entertain some “sweat equity” restoration proposals. Say a painter would do $5,000 worth of painting on one of the buildings in return for $5,000 worth of space.
No guarantees, but it is my understanding that the citizens of Milwaukee have a chance to purchase the Soldiers Home from the Federal Government.
How will we develop the Soldiers Home?
To serve the veterans, first and foremost, as best as can be configured. Partnerships between civil society and veterans oranizations and social enterprises and small businesses (large businesses?).
What say?
Why not?
Godsil
P.S. If anyone would be interested in looking at the Soldiers Home buildings and grounds with an eye toward being part of a Soldiers Home Co-Op or Soldiers Home Guild Development Group or some combination that would do justice to the space and provide things of high value for veterans and the common good of Milwaukee, there will be a May Day gathering from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will involve people who have been working in the Save the Soldiers Home Movement, including Sandy Folaron, Cleo Pruitt, Virgina Cassel, James Carlson, Peter Blewett, and many more. Feel free to call me at 232 1336 if you have any questions.

Dear Henry, Jerry, and Cleo,
I have a vision of you three standing on the footsteps of “Old Main,” of the Soldiers Home, inviting all of God’s children of Milwaukee to join the NAACP, Celebrate a New Birth of Freedom at the King Commemoration, Save the Soldiers Home, and Create 1,000 New Jobs in Restoring the Soldiers Home.

Dear All,
There has been a gathering of citizens from a variety of neighborhoods and identity groups at the beautiful NAACP offices this winter that has a fledgling web site started by James Carlson and Tegan Dowling of Emergency Digital.
http://www.milwiki.org/index.php/NAACPCoalition/HomePage
We can buy tickets Monday through Friday at the offices, from Mrs. Riley, who should be called beforehand to make sure she is available. Her number is 562 1000.
I am happy to help out too at 232 1336.
It will be a great moment in the history of our fair city when All of God’s Children gather at a Brewers Tailgate Party starting at 4:30 p.m., at the Helfaer Field at Miller Park, just to the east of the Soldiers Home, or to the south of the stadium.
Clear sailing,
Godsil
April 23, 2005

Subject: Soldiers Home Likely to Be Owned by Citizens of Milwaukee: Sandy Folaron and Cleo Pruitt To Discuss Future, May 1, 10 a.m., From the Steps of “Old Main”
Dear All,
It looks to me like the Soldiers Home will be saved.
The citizens of Milwaukee will likely become the owners of the Soldiers Home.We will probably transform it into a National Shrine for the cause of peace. We will probably breathe fresh new life into as a center for learning arts
and commerce, for young and old, and for sacred gatherings for healing our nation’s wounds and ancient enmities. We will be able to be honest with one another at the Soldiers Home, as we talk about the “wars within” that have taken more lives than all of our official external wars combined.
The Soldiers Home will become a place for community and conviviality, as well as awe and reverence. On the Sacred Days of all of our beautiful
identity groups from across the planet, all Americans, Old Americans, the Oldest Americans, and New Americans, the Newest Americans, will find people, all of God’s children, walking the beautiful grounds, enjoying the inspiring architecture, deep with meaning, escaping the intensity of the
big city. Praying. We will probably transform it into a place where veterans are honored and supported, spiritually and materially. The Soldiers Home will probably become a key feature of Milwaukee’s 21st Century Renaissance. It will probably become the soul of the city, our new city center,
connected by trams, bike and walkways, all the way to the Lake. For our youth, the Soldiers Home will probably be where its easiest to teach authentic citizenship, inspire vision, compassion, character, and competence.
The Soldiers Home was almost lost behind the freeway ugly and din, behind the ballpark ugly oceans of asphalt, and behind the modern buildings making up the hospitals and administrative buildings to tend to the needs of our
veterans. Some of the women soon to get public acknowledgement for their critical roles in the Save the Soldiers Home movement will be at the Soldiers Home
May Day Gathering, May 1, between 10 and 2 p.m.
Sandy Folaron and Cleo Pruitt are the most recent Women to Save the Soldiers Home, 2004–2005. Their role in this great drama is worth a book, one for each of them.
Here is one of the early drafts of Cleo Pruitt’s “Rebirth of Freedom Celebration Visions,” now endosed by the National Association of Black Vets(NABVETS), the NAACP, the Soldiers Home Foundation, Visit Milwaukee, the local VA, the Milwaukee Federation of Neighborhoods, and more to be
announced as the great day, July 8, 2005, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., approaches.

This is one vision of a future Soldiers Home Foundation in the making.

Great American Emancipator of 20th Century Honored Alongside the Great American Emancipator of 19th Century at the Soldiers Home of Milwaukee the Beautiful
Are there Afghan citizens who would like to know about life in Milwaukee?
Would pictures from the daily rounds of Milwaukee citizens along with their comments be of value in “humanizing America?”
Do we want our Middle Eastern brothers and sisters to know about the daily lives of average Americans?
The first picture I sent portrays Cleo Pruitt and Artur Kalendjian preparing to create a bronze of portions of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, set in stone, about 20 feet to the west of Lincoln’s “Gettysberg Address.” They are measuring Lincoln’s stone and exploring design concepts for King’s.
The Great American Emancipator of the 20th Century alongside of the Great Emancipator of the 19th Century. At the Soldiers Home in Milwaukee.
Installation Ceremony July 8, 2005, 5 to 9 p.m.
Walking and talking about this and more on May 1, May Day at the Soldiers Home, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
More to come.

Dear Michael,
Glad to know you are well!
Are there any “best” sources available to me who is very, very hungry for the best possible information sources re Afghanistan?
Are there introductions you could make that would connect me with the finest minds, the stoutest hearts, and the richest souls around the noosphere interested in the future of Afghanistan?
Afghanistan is like the Soldiers Home of Milwaukee.
If enough find minds “attend to” Afghanistan the good “word” could spark good work, n’est-ce pas?
Perhaps some of these conversations might be between members of the National Association of Black Veterans at the Soldiers Home? Or the NAACP? Or the Riverwest Neighborhood Association? Or the Metro Milwaukee Federation of Neighborhoods?
Are there to emerge Anglophone Citizens of Afghanistan who would like to share some stories and potential collaborative visions with some Anglophone citizens of Milwaukee? Or, we would create some yahoo groups or interactive and user friendly web locations a la www.Bucketworks.org and http://www.milwiki.org/Profiles/Groups.
I am building a sprawling garden of prose regarding our efforts to fight the good fight in Milwaukee the Beautiful. Most of it is mine, but I’m hoping to find others giving “voice” there when the Spirit moves them. It is a “wiki” web site that allows for anyone to create visions and spark mighty collaborations.
God bless,
Godsil

Hey Tegan,
How about placing Shelby’s painting of “Old Main” on the major Soldiers Home section of the Milwuakee Renaissance.
How about telling me how many minutes it took to do it.
How about telling me the balance of our account, given the work you’ve done for me and the work I and Shedd have done for you.

Dear Josephine,
Have you yet met Cleo Pruitt, key to the Save the Soldiers Home Movement, in partnership with Jerry Ann Hamilton of the NAACP and Brigadier General Bob Cocroft?
Looking forward to making introductions if you have not yet met Cleo.
