Day 1- Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Today we met Jim Godsil, who was kind enough to supply us with three arugula plants. They are about 1 centimeter in height each, and everyone’s really excited to see how they do!
Day 2- Wednesday, April 21, 2010
Wow, those arugula really grew overnight! They are all around 2 cm. now, although some of the tallest are already 3 cm. Interesting note: At the beginning of the day they were all leaning quite far towards the light. We turned them a few hours ago, and now they’re straight again. It seems they’re very light-sensitive!
Day 3- Thursday, April 22, 2010
The arugula are continuing their steady growth of about a centimeter per day. The tallest is up to 4 cm already. Most of them are around 3.5 cm, with some still slouching around 1 cm. We’re planning to replant them soon, before they over crowd each-other.
Day 10- Thursday, April 29, 2010
Interestingly, some of the arugula have grown to a point where they look more like very small lettuce plants. The tallest are already 6 cm, and I think they would grow more if we watered them more regularly. The soil already seems dry today, and we watered it just yesterday. We have yet to replant them, but it looks like it’ll have to be soon.

Mysteriously, one of the arugula seems to be taking the form of a shoot of grass, instead of being leafy like the others, and is a lot taller too (over 4 cm!). Maybe it’s a weed?

We replanted! The arugula are now all in separate, biodegradable containers (cardboard works best). The first few died during the transplantation, but once we started being more careful, the rest managed to pull through. The unusual-looking one is still there. Almost all of them are now hovering around 9 cm. They have been drooping noticeably ever since we transplanted them, but hopefully they’ll perk up in the near future.
Day 28- Monday, May 17, 2010
We have assigned someone to have the job of turning and watering the arugula, which so far is working out great. The sprouts still don’t look too healthful, with the tallest still barely reaching 9 cm. Hopefully they’ll perk up with the special attention they’re now receiving.
Day 29- Tuesday, May 18, 2010
Amazingly, the tallest sprouted up to 10.5 cm. last night! I guess they’re adjusting to the new environs. Well, some of them. They’re still looking pretty droopy.
