Compass essays are now On Line.

After a year of writing in the neighborhood newspaper, Bill Sell continues to write his neighborhood column.

The eye (“I”) in these essays is located in Bay View, Wisconsin, a peninsula between the waters of the Kinnickinnic River and the waters of Lake Michigan, and part of that great Wisconsin city, Milwaukee.

The “we” in this column are the neighbors who came to these waters knowing their life here was privileged by abundant water, water all around us. The luckiest people in the world live on the shores of a Great Lake.

Neighborhood is larger than one village; it is a way of life; it is the center of each of our lives. Neighborhood is Milwaukee; neighborhood is your village wherever in the world you may be.

My first essay for Milwaukee Renaisaance is a look into a future without fear, a future where our neighbors are stronger than our guns. We will protect each other.
