Hilltop closing is Historic Shift

Mental Health Task Force/ Make It Work Milwaukee 1/7/15 Update

Our coalitions have been supportive of the plans to close the long term care units at the Complex and shift the funding to community based services. This week is a true milestone as the Hilltop facility closes and every resident will have moved to a new home in the community, with services and supports developed to meet their individual needs.

Congratulations to the residents and thanks to the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division staff, Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), community providers, Wisconsins Department of Health Services, advocates from DRW and the Board on Aging and Long Term Care, Milwaukee County Disability Services staff, and many others who supported residents and guardians through this transition and worked to ensure a high quality, individualized community placements for each resident. This is a tremendous opportunity for the residents and a step forward in Milwaukee Countys work to transition to a community based model of care.

Here are links to a story in the Journal and to the Wheeler report which has a release from DRW.
