The Big WEDC Lie Update &WI Reps Response

By Robert Miranda, Editor, Wisconsin Spanish Journal

Walker announced that the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics’ stats were inaccurate. He promoted bogus stats his people at the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) created, which showed WI’s numbers as much more favorable. The media fell for the propaganda and the big lie was on.

Recently, Walker’s administration made an Interesting change in key executive positions of the DWD and Financial Institutions.

Longtime deputy director Jonathan Barry was moved out of DWD and sent to Public Safety. Walker’s peeps then moved Georgia Maxwell out of Financial Institutions to become deputy director of DWD. There is grumbling at DWD that Maxwell has no clue of labor economics and it appears the move was more an attempt to get a Walker loyalist inside DWD who will follow direction without question-someone whose trust is without question.

What is it that Maxwell could be sent there for? Skewing the days at DWD to match Wslker’s claim?

My sources tell me that she is to monitor information being requested by the media. What kind of information could Walker be concerned about that would force his team to place a labor economics challenged person as deputy director of DWD?

Well, information like comparing corporate lists at DWD and WEDC, and linking which companies not only received tax incentives and loans etc. from WEDC, but also received grants and other support from DWD, and failed to produce jobs. And the coup de gras? Compare those companies to Walker’s donor list.

Now that he’s running for prez, WI’s employment, job creation and WEDC numbers should be an embarrassment or, as Donald Trump said, “WI is a mess.” But you can be sure this Maxwell move is Walker taking even further steps to ‘cook Wisconsin’s books’ with impunity.

In response to my email questions about WEDC, District 48 WI Representative Melissa Sargent wrote:

Dear Robert,

Thank you for contacting me about Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and for sending along those articles*—things that make you go hmmm indeed.

I, too, am deeply concerned about the audit released concerning the many improprieties and issues going on at WEDC. WEDC has been a financial, ethical, and legal disaster, which has only been further confirmed by the Legislative Audit Bureau on two separate occasions over two different legislative sessions. WEDC has failed. They have failed in their mission to create jobs, and they have failed to adhere to repeated calls for stricter oversight and better reporting measures. WEDC has lost money, written off loans, and misused funds on extravagant purchases

WEDC has been an embarrassment to our state and is being used as a slush fund to reward extreme out-of-state special interests and campaign donors while Wisconsins middle class continues to shrink. If WEDC is going to continue to exist in Wisconsin, we most promote transparency and completely overhaul this failure of a job creation agency.

I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind on this proposal and any future proposals on this issue. Again, thank you for contacting me, and please do not hesitate to contact me again regarding any matters facing the state legislature. Your opinions are important to me and allow me to better serve you as a state representative.
